DETAILS: Very hard to find copy of Jungle Jack In The Jungle V1#1 by Tom of Finland (nee Touko Valio Laaksonen), Studio Bookshop & Gallery, Hudson St., NYC. Oversize measuring 8" x 10" inches (later issues were printed in the smaller European size). High grade condition copy with minor cover wear. Light surface mark to back cover which is visible in thr images provided. Most copies of this title that appear are typically found in Poor to Good condition. Rare.
PUBLICATION NOTES REGARDING TOM OF FINLAND PRINTINGS COMICS: Tom of Finland (Touko Valio Laaksonen) started distributing his work on his own in Helsinki (most in fanzine format and identified as self-published works by Tom). Then he teamed up with a small regional Scandinavian publisher D.F.T. (Denmark) in 1968. In 1971 he continued with Coq Publishing (Denmark) and Revolt Press (Sweden). During this time Tom was very active creating new content and all three of these European publishers printed first editions of his original works. In 1972 Tom entered into a limited distribution agreement for a small run of titles by Studio Bookshop & Gallery. Most of these were we reprints of Toms earlier European releases with added content. These were only distributed by the bookstore at their NYC location and bear their Hudson Street address in the indicia. In 1979 he finally created the Tom of Finland Company where he began to republish his earlier material, again with new art added on occasional issues.
