PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Mr. Joe, who lived in New York City at the beginning of the sexual revolution in the 1960's. The Polaroid photos in the collection show that over a period of approximately 15 years, Mr Joe had some type of sexual intimacy with at least 1500 different women. Basically he was meeting a new sexual partner on average about every 3 days. On days in between, he was managing to squeeze in previous lovers. An incredible feat!
Mr Joe was not some wealthy dashing model. From the looks of it he was pretty much working class. As the background to the photos suggest, the women in his life were not attracted to him because of his monetary possessions or flashy lifestyle. Rather, as the love letters in the collection suggest, it was his great confidence and a constant smile. He was an early adapter of film technology and as the back of the instant photographs indicate, he owned several high end SLR Polaroid cameras. Finally, in order to introduce a bit of whimsy into his photographic art he had many of the women stick their tongues out at the camera when being photographed. : )D
