The New Dudes 1978 Toby Bluth / Fred Bluth 48pgs Early Gay Underground Pictorial Magazine, XXX Publishing M29429

Sale price $239.20 Regular price $299.00

DETAILS: Very hard to fine early gay underground pictorial. San Francisco. Circa 1976. Features 11 pages of Toby Bluth / Fred Bluth art which is incorporated into a much longer pictorial titled "The Toby Boy". We believe that the male model in the pictorial is actually Bluth's partner and that Bluth photographed the entire pictorial. The work appears to be an attempt by the gifted gay comic artist to merge the art forms of comics and photography. The results are a highly accomplished lithographic homo-erotic graphic novel.

BIOGRAPHY: Frederick L. "Toby" Bluth (1940 – 2013) was a gay American illustrator who worked on many Disney films as well as other Hollywood studios. He was an accomplished animator, background artist, and production designer. In addition to his film works, he also had a long career writing and illustrating mainstream books, as well as performing and directing in theater with over 40 musicals credited to him, both on Broadway and off. But his greatest joy was his artwork which is still prominently displayed at most of the Disney theme parks around the world. He was the younger brother of Don Bluth, with whom he collaborated with on both theater and animation projects. Prior to his art work in mainstream straight art- world, he was active in the underground gay comic scene in California during the 1970's. He sometimes used the pen name Toby Bluth for his gay adult titles.
