DETAILS: Fanni Hall #1: The Complete Fanni Hall 1971-1976 by The Bishop (Robert Bishop), House Of Milan, Los Angeles, 1978. 64 pages in length. In Near Fine condition with minor cover wear which is visible in the images provided.
BIOGRAPHY: Robert K. Bishop (1945–1991) was a bondage artist and photographer best known for his images of restrained and gagged women published by the House of Milan, for which he also worked as production manager. Born in Michigan, US he studied art at Michigan Art School. Upon graduation he began to veer into the world of underground comix.
His main work period was during the 1970s and early 1980s. His work, mostly depicting women in stringent bondage, was largely monochrome, rendered using pencil, ink and airbrush. Many of the gags and restraints depicted in his art were invented by him. After commencing work for Harmony magazines he quickly developed strong following in the BDSM world and became the publishers top attraction - -a rare accomplishment for an artist in the adult publishing industry. But what made Bishop an even bigger success was equally popular among those outside of the BDSM community.
Disputes with Harmony over creative freedoms led Bishop to leave the publisher for The House of Milan (HOM) to follow his own path. He also worked for Centurian Publications (LDL Press) and produced cover illustrations for numerous bondage novels by F. E. Campbell. He also both wrote and illustrated a series of stories describing the misadventures of the character "Fanni Hall". He is considered by many to be leading artistic force leading the emergence of the BDSM scene of 1970's.
